For the last year I have been telling my friends and family about last year’s 30 Day Challenge and I known several have followed my suggestion and have signed up and have been waiting patiently for the new 2009 program to start. Well, wait no more. It is finally here. Preseason sessions are vitally important if you are a total beginner (newbie) when it comes to internet marketing. In the preseason session you will learn about many new applications (mostly) freely available to you. These applications will become your tools of the trade, whether are looking to start a new internet business or discover how to promote your existing business on the internet.
So you have finally stepped into the world of making money online. You too, like the others, have decided to start with the affiliate programs. Also, you must have heard that it’s not a big deal to make good money with affiliate marketing, provided you choose the right programs and do some strategic planning while promoting your affiliate products. So far so good.
It’s rather humbling to see my misadventures here in print for all the world to see but I set out to journal this journey so on I go. I find my biggest challenge is staying focused. There are so many versions of the same truths and axioms available. Just last weekend I was going through my Week 7 lesson at the Wealthy Affiliate University and went offtrack a bit to look up a more detailed explanation of some term and found myself surfing articles in the Share Zone and one not only caught my attention but busted me royally. The title was something like “How to Avoid the Gurus and Stay Focused.” Right on the money!
Well actually this is my third or fourth web page. I did two as classwork in college and one for fun which focuses on our retirement home in Baja. So this article would more accurately titled ‘publishing my first web page for the purpose of making money.’ It has taken me about three weeks to get to this point. I purchased the domain name and a hosting package from Namecheap on the first week but I found there instructions difficult to follow and web design assistance minimal. Somewhere in my second week into this pursuit I signed up for the Wealthy Affiliate University site was please to find that my monthly membership fee included not only web page design templates, tools and tutorials but also web hosting with step by step instructions for uploading my site!
This stuff is addicting. It has been years since the internet was so compelling. I remember when I first got online I would start to read my email and get lost surfing the web for several hours, unaware of the time passing. The novelty eventually wore off and real life responsibilities usurped my surfing expeditions. However, since I started doing research on how to build an online business, the same thing happening all over again. I start out reading the text of the first or second program I bought but a link will take me out to a live sight and then I am off, following the trail of other people’s ideas, articles, pages, products. Hours later, glassy eyed and disparate to run to the other room, I pull myself away from the screen and collapse. Still no article published or product linked to my name.
